How the eCall system works
1. Vehicle computer senses a eCall rule has been broken (bumped into something, eccessive speed, spinout, air bag deployment, evasive behavior, car senses crash)
2. Vehicle's eCall chip connects to the nearest cellular network establishing a phone call to police dispatch. The drivers personal data is then sent via wireless message (MSD) to the dispatch center along with a voice call instantly established. This call cannot be ended by the driver.
3. Upon the call being established the drivers personal information such as: VIN number, name, location, speed, last 3 GPS locations, amount of passengers, video recording of exterior, and even photographs taken with an inside the vehicle are sent directly to a government database.
